Inspiration & question - Lk. 1:46-56

And Mary said:
"With all my heart I praise the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!

He has been attentive to his humble servant girl
and now all generations will call me blessed.

Holy is the Mighty One's name,
great things he has done for me.

His mercy reaches all who fear him,
all down through the generations.

With his strong arm he has done great things!

The proud in heart? He scattered them.
The high and might rulers? He has brought down.
The humble? He has exalted them.
The hungry? He has filled them with good.
The rich? He has sent them away empty-handed.

He has helped his servant Israel,
he has not forgotten to ever be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants
just as he promised our ancestors.”
Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then went home. Luke 1:46-56 DSV – Mary’s Song

1. What depth of awareness does Mary have that the child she is carrying is the Messiah? What was her concept of what the Messiah would be like at this point in time?

2. What connection is there between a young servant girl becoming pregnant and God scattering the proud, bringing rulers to their knees, filling the hungry and sending way the rich empty-handed? What does Mary mean by these things?

3. Exactly what promises does Mary have in mind that God had made to Abraham and Abraham's descendants that Mary perceives he is now keeping?
